About Us

"Shangani" means literally, "To walk on the Sand" and relates strongly to our belief that the only way to enjoy and truly understand the bush is to be able to walk through nature, experiencing the smell, sounds and sights undisturbed by all external, artificial noises.
Rhodes Bezuidenhout, a long time Director of a Company in the Financial Sector, left the corporate world to realize a long held dream of working in a bush environment away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

While building his experience base and being privileged to have been mentored by arguably one of the best Trail Guides in South Africa, Bruce Lawson of EcoTraining, Rhodes realized that walking trails was the ideal medium to close the gap that clearly exists between the guests desire to improve their knowledge of the bush and your average "Big Five Lodge" game drive.

A different approach was needed and hence Shangani Trails was established to provide the vehicle through which the guest is able to enjoy the true beauty of the African Bush through an informal, intimate on foot experience.

Rhodes is a fully qualified FGASA (Field Guides Association of Southern Africa) Trails Guide with Advanced Rifle Handling qualifications
